e3aa1d9dd4 Cleanup ticket processing and session lookup.
Use more sensible variable names. Also move some work between the helpers and
s3_srvr.c a little; the session lookup functions now only return a new session.
Whether to send a ticket is now an additional output to avoid the enum
explosion around renewal. The actual SSL state is not modified.

This is somewhat cleaner as s3_srvr.c may still reject a session for other
reasons, so we avoid setting ssl->session and ssl->verify_result to a session
that wouldn't be used. (They get fixed up in ssl_get_new_session, so it didn't
actually matter.)

4bdb6e43fa Remove remaining calls to the old lock functions.
|SSL_CTX| and |X509_STORE| have grown their own locks. Several static
locks have been added to hack around not being able to use a
|CRYPTO_once_t| in public headers. Lastly, support for calling
|SSL_CTX_set_generate_session_id| concurrently with active connections
has been removed. No other property of an |SSL_CTX| works like that.

9f33fc63c6 Remove hash table lookups from ex_data.
Instead, each module defines a static CRYPTO_EX_DATA_CLASS to hold the values.
This makes CRYPTO_cleanup_all_ex_data a no-op as spreading the
CRYPTO_EX_DATA_CLASSes across modules (and across crypto and ssl) makes cleanup
slightly trickier. We can make it do something if needbe, but it's probably not
worth the trouble.

a54e2e85ee Remove server-side HelloVerifyRequest support.
I found no users of this. We can restore it if needbe, but I don't expect
anyone to find it useful in its current form. The API is suspect for the same
reasons DTLSv1_listen was. An SSL object is stateful and assumes you already
have the endpoint separated out.

If we ever need it, server-side HelloVerifyRequest and DTLSv1_listen should be
implemented by a separate stateless listener that statelessly handles
cookieless ClientHello + HelloVerifyRequest. Once a ClientHello with a valid
cookie comes in, it sets up a stateful SSL object and passes control along to
that.

23a8ca1f10 Implement SSL_get1_session with SSL_SESSION_up_ref.
It doesn't appear that logic (added in upstream's
b7cfcfb7f8e17c17f457b3384010eb027f3aad72) is protecting against anything. On
the contrary, it prohibits implementing CRYPTO_add with real atomic operations!
There's no guarantee that those operations will interact with the locked
implementation.

https://www.mail-archive.com/openssl-users@openssl.org/msg63176.html

As long as ssl->session points to the same session, we know the session won't
be freed. There is no lock protecting, say, SSL_set_session, but a single SSL*
does not appear to be safe to use across threads. If this were to be supported,
both should be guarded by CRYPTO_LOCK_SSL (which is barely used).
CRYPTO_LOCK_SSL_SESSION isn't sufficient anyway; it could sample while
SSL_set_session is busy swapping out the now freed old session with the new.

7e23746dd4 Remove redundant SSL_ST_BEFORE-related checks.
SSL_ST_BEFORE isn't a possible state anymore. It seems this state meant the
side wasn't known, back in the early SSLeay days. Now upstream guesses
(sometimes incorrectly with generic methods), and we don't initialize until
later. SSL_shutdown also doesn't bother to call ssl3_shutdown at all if the
side isn't initialized and SSL_ST_BEFORE isn't the uninitialized state, which
seems a much more sensible arrangement.

Likewise, because bare SSL_ST_BEFOREs no longer exist, SSL_in_init implies
SSL_in_before and there is no need to check both.

0f1e64bf7f Remove method swap in SSL_set_session.
This is a bit of cleanup that probably should have been done at the same time
as 30ddb434bf.

For now, version negotiation is implemented with a method swap. It also
performs this swap on SSL_set_session, but this was neutered in
30ddb434bf. Rather than hackishly neuter it,
remove it outright. In addition, remove SSL_set_ssl_method. Now all method
swaps are internal: SSLv23_method switch to a version-specific method and
SSL_clear undoing it.

Note that this does change behavior: if an SSL* is created with one
version-specific method and we SSL_set_session to a session from a /different/
version, we would switch to the /other/ version-specific method. This is
extremely confusing, so it's unlikely anyone was actually expecting it.
Version-specific methods in general don't work well.

d1681e614f Remove SSL_set_session_secret_cb (EAP-FAST)
This is only used for EAP-FAST which we apparently don't need to support.
Remove it outright. We broke it in 9eaeef81fa by
failing to account for session misses.

If this changes and we need it later, we can resurrect it. Preferably
implemented differently: the current implementation is bolted badly onto the
handshake. Ideally use the supplied callbacks to fabricate an appropriate
SSL_SESSION and resume that with as much of the normal session ticket flow as
possible.

The one difference is that EAP-FAST seems to require the probing mechanism for
session tickets rather than the sane session ID echoing version. We can
reimplement that by asking the record layer to probe ahead for one byte.

688d8dfe48 Remove psk_identity_hint from SSL_SESSION.
There's not much point in retaining the identity hint in the SSL_SESSION. This
avoids the complexity around setting psk_identity hint on either the SSL or the
SSL_SESSION. Introduce a peer_psk_identity_hint for the client to store the one
received from the server.

This changes the semantics of SSL_get_psk_identity_hint; it now only returns
the value configured for the server. The client learns the hint through the
callback. This is compatible with the one use of this API in conscrypt (it
pulls the hint back out to pass to a callback).

180d1eb04c Remove SSL_get_shared_ciphers.
This removes the need to track the client cipher list in the SSL_SESSION. It
also eliminates a field in SSL_SESSION that wasn't serialized by
i2d_SSL_SESSION. It's only used to implement SSL_get_shared_ciphers which is
only used by debug code.

Moreover, it doesn't work anyway. The SSLv2 logic pruned that field to the
common ciphers, but the SSLv3+ logic just stores the client list as-is. I found
no internal callers that were actually compiled (if need be we can stub in
something that always returns the empty string or so).

f4501347c9 Remove default_timeout hook.
Of the remaining implementations left, ssl3_, dtls1_, and ssl23_, dtls1_ is
redundant and can be folded into ssl3_. ssl23_ actually isn't; it sets 5
minutes rather than 2 hours. Two hours seems to be what everything else uses
and seems a saner default. Most consumers seem to override it anyway
(SSL_CTX_set_timeout). But it is a behavior change.

The method is called at two points:
- SSL_get_default_timeout
- SSL_CTX_new

Incidentally, the latter call actually makes the former never called internally
and the value it returns a lie. SSL_get_default_timeout returns the default
timeout of the /current/ method, but in ssl_get_new_session, the timeout is
shadowed by session_timeout on the context. That is initialized when
SSL_CTX_new is called. So, unless you go out of your way to
SSL_CTX_set_timeout(0), it always overrides. (And it actually used to a
difference because, for SSL23, the SSL_CTX's method is SSL23, but, when session
creation happens, the SSL's method is the version-specific one.)

82b7da271f Set SSL_SESSION.cipher when parsing.
This was done for the server when parsing a session ticket, but it
wasn't done in the parsing function itself. That caused problems when
high level code used the parsing function directly to set a session for
the client code.

See comments in internal bug 7091840.

8eaaa86da3 Add mode to disallow session creation.
Android needs this and it was patched into their OpenSSL in
  https://android.googlesource.com/platform/external/openssl.git/+/master/patches/0003-jsse.patch

It appears that this is needed because javax.net.ssl.SSLEngine has it as
part of its interface and thus it's part of the Android API. No idea why
anything would ever want to disable that though.

39482a13ac Remove get_cipher_by_char and put_cipher_by_char.
Without SSLv2, all cipher suite values are 2 bytes. Represent them as a
uint16_t and make all functions pass those around rather than pointers.

This removes SSL_CIPHER_find as it's unused.

22f9bccde5 Port ssl3_get_client_hello to CBS.
Also fix some DTLS cookie bugs. rcvd_cookie is never referenced after being
saved (and the length isn't saved, so it couldn't be used anyway), and the
cookie verification failed to check the length.

For convenience, add a CBS_mem_equal helper function. Saves a bit of
repetition.

0289c73051 Fix TLS-PSK identity hint implementation issues.
PSK identity hint can be stored in SSL_CTX and in SSL/SSL_SESSION,
similar to other TLS parameters, with the value in SSL/SSL_SESSION
taking precedence over the one in SSL_CTX. The value in SSL_CTX is
shared (used as the default) between all SSL instances associated
with that SSL_CTX, whereas the value in SSL/SSL_SESSION is confined
to that particular TLS/SSL connection/session.

The existing implementation of TLS-PSK does not correctly distinguish
between PSK identity hint in SSL_CTX and in SSL/SSL_SESSION. This
change fixes these issues:
1. SSL_use_psk_identity_hint does nothing and returns "success" when
the SSL object does not have an associated SSL_SESSION.
2. On the client, the hint in SSL_CTX (which is shared between
multiple SSL instances) is overwritten with the hint received from
server or reset to NULL if no hint was received.
3. On the client, psk_client_callback is invoked with the hint from
SSL_CTX rather than from current SSL/SSL_SESSION (i.e., the one
received from the server). Issue #2 above masks this issue.
4. On the server, the hint in SSL/SSL_SESSION is ignored and the hint
from SSL_CTX is sent to the client.
5. On the server, the hint in SSL/SSL_SESSION is reset to the one in
SSL_CTX after the ClientKeyExchange message step.

This change fixes the issues by:
* Adding storage for the hint in the SSL object. The idea being that
the hint in the associated SSL_SESSION takes precedence.
* Reading the hint during the handshake only from the associated
  SSL_SESSION object.
* Initializing the hint in SSL object with the one from the SSL_CTX
  object.
* Initializing the hint in SSL_SESSION object with the one from the
  SSL object.
* Making SSL_use_psk_identity_hint and SSL_get_psk_identity_hint
set/get the hint to/from SSL_SESSION associated with the provided
SSL object, or, if no SSL_SESSION is available, set/get the hint
  to/from the provided SSL object.
* Removing code which resets the hint during handshake.
