87eab4902d Splitting SSL session state.
To prevent configuration/established session confusion, the handshake
session state is separated into the configured session (ssl->session)
and the newly created session (ssl->s3->new_session). Upon conclusion of
the handshake, the finalized session is stored
in (ssl->s3->established_session). During the handshake, any requests
for the session (SSL_get_session) return a non-resumable session, to
prevent resumption of a partially filled session. Sessions should only
be cached upon the completion of the full handshake, using the resulting
established_session. The semantics of accessors on the session are
maintained mid-renego.

0c0b7e1e1f Widen SSL_PRIVATE_KEY_METHOD types to include the curve name.
This makes custom private keys and EVP_PKEYs symmetric again. There is
no longer a requirement that the caller pre-filter the configured
signing prefs.

Also switch EVP_PKEY_RSA to NID_rsaEncryption. These are identical, but
if some key types are to be NIDs, we should make them all NIDs.

eff1e8d9c7 Adding RSA-PSS signature algorithms.
[Rebased and tests added by davidben.]

In doing so, regenerate the test RSA certificate to be 2048-bit RSA.
RSA-PSS with SHA-512 is actually too large for 1024-bit RSA. Also make
the sigalg test loop test versions that do and don't work which subsumes
the ecdsa_sha1 TLS 1.3 test.

For now, RSA-PKCS1 is still allowed because NSS has yet to implement
RSA-PSS and we'd like to avoid complicated interop testing.

1fb125c74a Enforce ECDSA curve matching in TLS 1.3.
Implement in both C and Go. To test this, route config into all the
sign.go functions so we can expose bugs to skip the check.

Unfortunately, custom private keys are going to be a little weird since
we can't check their curve type. We may need to muse on what to do here.
Perhaps the key type bit should return an enum that includes the curve?
It's weird because, going forward, hopefully all new key types have
exactly one kind of signature so key type == sig alg == sig alg prefs.

51dd7d6379 Don't fall back to SHA-1 in TLS 1.3, only TLS 1.2.
TLS 1.3 also forbids signing SHA-1 digests, but this will be done as a
consequence of forbidding PKCS#1 in 1.3 altogether (rsa_sign_sha1) and
requiring a curve match in ECDSA (ecdsa_sha1).

6b8509a768 Add default handlers for extension parsing.
This allows us to specify client-only and unused callbacks without

ea9a0d5313 Refine SHA-1 default in signature algorithm negotiation.
Rather than blindly select SHA-1 if we can't find a matching one, act as
if the peer advertised rsa_pkcs1_sha1 and ecdsa_sha1. This means that we
will fail the handshake if no common algorithm may be found.

This is done in preparation for removing the SHA-1 default in TLS 1.3.

d246b81751 Don't decompose sigalgs in key preferences.
Instead, in SSL_set_private_key_digest_prefs, convert the NID list to a
sigalgs list. We'll need to add a new API later when custom key callers
are ready to start advertising RSA-PSS.

This removes all callers of tls12_get_hash except inside the signing and
verifying functions.

9e68f19e1b Add SSL_get_curve_id and SSL_get_dhe_group_size.
This replaces the old key_exchange_info APIs and does not require the
caller be aware of the mess around SSL_SESSION management. They
currently have the same bugs around renegotiation as before, but later
work to fix up SSL_SESSION tracking will fix their internals.

For consistency with the existing functions, I've kept the public API at
'curve' rather than 'group' for now. I think it's probably better to
have only one name with a single explanation in the section header
rather than half and half. (I also wouldn't be surprised if the IETF
ends up renaming 'group' again to 'key exchange' at some point.  We'll
see what happens.)

b6a0a518a3 Simplify version configuration.
OpenSSL's SSL_OP_NO_* flags allow discontinuous version ranges. This is a
nuisance for two reasons. First it makes it unnecessarily difficult to answer
"are any versions below TLS 1.3 enabled?". Second the protocol does not allow
discontinuous version ranges on the client anyway. OpenSSL instead picks the
first continous range of enabled versions on the client, but not the server.

This is bizarrely inconsistent. It also doesn't quite do this as the
ClientHello sending logic does this, but not the ServerHello processing logic.
So we actually break some invariants slightly. The logic is also cumbersome in
DTLS which kindly inverts the comparison logic.

First, switch min_version/max_version's storage to normalized versions. Next
replace all the ad-hoc version-related functions with a single
ssl_get_version_range function. Client and server now consistently pick a
contiguous range of versions. Note this is a slight behavior change for
servers. Version-range-sensitive logic is rewritten to use this new function.

025638597a Changing representation of signature/hash to use SignatureScheme.
As part of the SignatureAlgorithm change in the TLS 1.3 specification,
the existing signature/hash combinations are replaced with a combined
signature algorithm identifier. This change maintains the existing APIs
while fixing the internal representations. The signing code currently
still treats the SignatureAlgorithm as a decomposed value, which will be
fixed as part of a separate CL.

9b611e28e4 Simplify server_name extension parsing.
Although the server_name extension was intended to be extensible to new name
types, OpenSSL 1.0.x had a bug which meant different name types will cause an
error. Further, RFC 4366 originally defined syntax inextensibly. RFC 6066
corrected this mistake, but adding new name types is no longer feasible.

Act as if the extensibility does not exist to simplify parsing. This also
aligns with OpenSSL 1.1.x's behavior. See upstream's

981936791e Remove some easy obj.h dependencies.
A lot of consumers of obj.h only want the NID values. Others didn't need
it at all. This also removes some OBJ_nid2sn and OBJ_nid2ln calls in EVP
error paths which isn't worth pulling a large table in for.

5ba06897be Don't cast |OPENSSL_malloc|/|OPENSSL_realloc| result.
C has implicit conversion of |void *| to other pointer types so these
casts are unnecessary. Clean them up to make the code easier to read
and to make it easier to find dangerous casts.

72f7e21087 Stop allowing SHA-224 in TLS 1.2.
Take the mappings for MD5 and SHA-224 values out of the code altogether. This
aligns with the current TLS 1.3 draft.

For MD5, this is a no-op. It is not currently possible to configure accepted
signature algorithms, MD5 wasn't in the hardcoded list, and we already had a
test ensuring we enforced our preferences correctly. MD5 also wasn't in the
default list of hashes our keys could sign and no one overrides it with a
different hash.

For SHA-224, this is not quite a no-op. The hardcoded accepted signature
algorithms list included SHA-224, so this will break servers relying on that.
However, Chrome's metrics have zero data points of servers picking SHA-224 and
no other major browser includes it. Thus that should be safe.

SHA-224 was also in the default list of hashes we are willing to sign. For
client certificates, Chromium's abstractions already did not allow signing
SHA-224, so this is a no-op there. For servers, this will break any clients
which only accept SHA-224. But no major browsers do this and I am not aware of
any client implementation which does such ridiculous thing.

(SHA-1's still in there. Getting rid of that one is going to take more effort.)

a1e9cabd8b Replace enc_flags with normalized version checks.
This removes the various non-PRF checks from SSL3_ENC_METHOD so that can
have a clearer purpose. It also makes TLS 1.0 through 1.2's
SSL3_ENC_METHOD tables identical and gives us an assert to ensure
nothing accesses the version bits before version negotiation.
Accordingly, ssl_needs_record_splitting was reordered slightly so we
don't rely on enc_method being initialized to TLS 1.2
pre-version-negotiation.

This leaves alert_value as the only part of SSL3_ENC_METHOD which may be
accessed before version negotiation.

ce9d85eedd Tweaks for node.js
node.js is, effectively, another bindings library. However, it's better
written than most and, with these changes, only a couple of tiny fixes
are needed in node.js. Some of these changes are a little depressing
however so we'll need to push node.js to use APIs where possible.

Changes:
  ∙ Support verify_recover. This is very obscure and the motivation
    appears to be https://github.com/nodejs/node/issues/477 – where it's
    not clear that anyone understands what it means :(
  ∙ Add a few, no-op #defines
  ∙ Add some members to |SSL_CTX| and |SSL| – node.js needs to not
    reach into these structs in the future.
  ∙ Add EC_get_builtin_curves.
  ∙ Add EVP_[CIPHER|MD]_do_all_sorted – these functions are limited to
    decrepit.

fc6e5a7372 Drop the silly 'ECDH_' prefix on X25519.
I got that from the TLS 1.3 draft, but it's kind of silly-looking. X25519
already refers to a Diffie-Hellman primitive.

Also hopefully the WG will split NamedGroups and SignatureAlgorithms per the
recent proposal, so it won't be needed anyway. (Most chatter is about what
hashes should be allowed with what NIST curves, so it seems like people like
the split itself? We'll see.)

57997da8ee Simplify the ChangeCipherSpec logic.
It's the same between TLS and SSL 3.0. There's also no need for the
do_change_cipher_spec wrapper (it no longer needs checks to ensure it
isn't called at a bad place). Finally fold the setup_key_block call into

ef1b009344 Consider session if the client supports tickets but offered a session ID.
This is a minor regression from
https://boringssl-review.googlesource.com/5235.

If the client, for whatever reason, had an ID-based session but also
supports tickets, it will send non-empty ID + empty ticket extension.
If the ticket extension is non-empty, then the ID is not an ID but a
dummy signaling value, so 5235 avoided looking it up. But if it is
present and empty, the ID is still an ID and should be looked up.

This shouldn't have any practical consequences, except if a server
switched from not supporting tickets and then started supporting it,
while keeping the session cache fixed.

Add a test for this case, and tighten up existing ID vs ticket tests so
they fail if we resume with the wrong type.

4298d77379 Implement draft-ietf-tls-curve25519-01 in C.
The new curve is not enabled by default.

As EC_GROUP/EC_POINT is a bit too complex for X25519, this introduces an
SSL_ECDH_METHOD abstraction which wraps just the raw ECDH operation. It
also tidies up some of the curve code which kept converting back and
force between NIDs and curve IDs. Now everything transits as curve IDs
except for API entry points (SSL_set1_curves) which take NIDs. Those
convert immediately and act on curve IDs from then on.

Note that, like the Go implementation, this slightly tweaks the order of
operations. The client sees the server public key before sending its
own. To keep the abstraction simple, SSL_ECDH_METHOD expects to
generate a keypair before consuming the peer's public key. Instead, the
client handshake stashes the serialized peer public value and defers
parsing it until it comes time to send ClientKeyExchange. (This is
analogous to what it was doing before where it stashed the parsed peer
public value instead.)

It still uses TLS 1.2 terminology everywhere, but this abstraction should also
be compatible with TLS 1.3 which unifies (EC)DH-style key exchanges.
(Accordingly, this abstraction intentionally does not handle parsing the
ClientKeyExchange/ServerKeyExchange framing or attempt to handle asynchronous
plain RSA or the authentication bits.)

fc8251258d Convert ssl3_send_cert_verify to CBB.
In doing so, make the asynchronous portion look more like
ssl3_send_server_key_exchange. This is a considerably simpler structure,
so the save/resume doesn't need any state.

Mostly this means writing out the signature algorithm can now go through
CBB rather than a uint8_t* without bounds check.

a01deee96b Make CBB_len relative to its argument.
Rather than the length of the top-level CBB, which is kind of odd when ASN.1
length prefixes are not yet determined, return the number of bytes written to
the CBB so far. This can be computed without increasing the size of CBB at all.
Have offset and pending_*.

This means functions which take in a CBB as argument will not be sensitive to
whether the CBB is a top-level or child CBB. The extensions logic had to be
careful to only ever compare differences of lengths, which was awkward.

The reversal will also allow for the following pattern in the future, once
CBB_add_space is split into, say, CBB_reserve and CBB_did_write and we add a
CBB_data:

3e052de5a0 Tighten SSL_OP_LEGACY_SERVER_CONNECT to align with RFC 5746.
RFC 5746 forbids a server from downgrading or upgrading
renegotiation_info support. Even with SSL_OP_LEGACY_SERVER_CONNECT set
(the default), we can still enforce a few things.

I do not believe this has practical consequences. The attack variant
where the server half is prefixed does not involve a renegotiation on
the client. The converse where the client sees the renegotiation and
prefix does, but we only support renego for the mid-stream HTTP/1.1
client auth hack, which doesn't do this. (And with triple-handshake,
HTTPS clients should be requiring the certificate be unchanged across
renego which makes this moot.)

Ultimately, an application which makes the mistake of using
renegotiation needs to be aware of what exactly that means and how to
handle connection state changing mid-stream. We make renego opt-in now,
so this is a tenable requirement.

(Also the legacy -> secure direction would have been caught by the
server anyway since we send a non-empty RI extension.)

99fdfb9f22 Move curve check out of tls12_check_peer_sigalg.
The current check has two problems:

- It only runs on the server, where there isn't a curve list at all. This was a
  mistake in https://boringssl-review.googlesource.com/1843 which flipped it
  from client-only to server-only.

- It only runs in TLS 1.2, so one could bypass it by just negotiating TLS 1.1.
  Upstream added it as part of their Suite B mode, which requires 1.2.

Move it elsewhere. Though we do not check the entire chain, leaving that to the
certificate verifier, signatures made by the leaf certificate are made by the
SSL/TLS stack, so it's reasonable to check the curve as part of checking
suitability of a leaf.

091c4b9869 Add an option to disable NPN on a per-SSL basis.
Right whether NPN is advertised can only be configured globally on the SSL_CTX.
Rather than adding two pointers to each SSL*, add an options bit to disable it
so we may plumb in a field trial to disable NPN.

Chromium wants to be able to route a bit in to disable NPN, but it uses SSL_CTX
incorrectly and has a global one, so it can't disconnect the callback. (That
really needs to get fixed. Although it's not clear this necessarily wants to be
lifted up to SSL_CTX as far as Chromium's SSLClientSocket is concerned since
NPN doesn't interact with the session cache.)

c7ce977fb9 Ignore all extensions but renegotiation_info in SSL 3.0.
SSL 3.0 used to have a nice and simple rule around extensions. They don't
exist. And then RFC 5746 came along and made this all extremely confusing.

In an SSL 3.0 server, rather than blocking ServerHello extension
emission when renegotiation_info is missing, ignore all ClientHello
extensions but renegotiation_info. This avoids a mismatch between local
state and the extensions with emit.

Notably if, for some reason, a ClientHello includes the session_ticket
extension, does NOT include renegotiation_info or the SCSV, and yet the
client or server are decrepit enough to negotiate SSL 3.0, the
connection will fail due to unexpected NewSessionTicket message.

See https://crbug.com/425979#c9 for a discussion of something similar
that came up in diagnosing https://poodle.io/'s buggy POODLE check.
This is analogous to upstream's
5a3d8eebb7667b32af0ccc3f12f314df6809d32d.

(Not supporting renego as a server in any form anyway, we may as well
completely ignore extensions, but then our extensions callbacks can't
assume the parse hooks are always called. This way the various NULL

The Android system BoringSSL has a couple of changes:
  ∙ ChaCha20-Poly1305 is disabled because it's not an offical
    cipher suite.
  ∙ P-521 is offered in the ClientHello.

These changes were carried in the Android BoringSSL repo directly. This
change upstreams them when BORINGSSL_ANDROID_SYSTEM is defined.

0d62f26c36 Adding more options for signing digest fallback.
Allow configuring digest preferences for the private key. Some
smartcards have limited support for signing digests, notably Windows
CAPI keys and old Estonian smartcards. Chromium used the supports_digest
hook in SSL_PRIVATE_KEY_METHOD to limit such keys to SHA1. However,
detecting those keys was a heuristic, so some SHA256-capable keys
authenticating to SHA256-only servers regressed in the switch to
BoringSSL. Replace this mechanism with an API to configure digest
preference order. This way heuristically-detected SHA1-only keys may be
configured by Chromium as SHA1-preferring rather than SHA1-requiring.

In doing so, clean up the shared_sigalgs machinery somewhat.

3dd9016a51 Remove signature algorithm configuration hooks and SSL_ctrl.
They're not called (new in 1.0.2). We actually may well need to
configure these later to strike ECDSA from the list on Chrome/XP
depending on what TLS 1.3 does, but for now striking it from the cipher
suite list is both necessary and sufficient. I think we're better off
removing these for now and adding new APIs later if we need them.

(This API is weird. You pass in an array of NIDs that must be even
length and alternating between hash and signature NID. We'd also need a
way to query the configured set of sigalgs to filter away. Those used to
exist but were removed in
https://boringssl-review.googlesource.com/#/c/5347/. SSL_get_sigalgs is
an even uglier API and doesn't act on the SSL_CTX.)

And with that, SSL_ctrl and SSL_CTX_ctrl can *finally* be dropped. Don't
leave no-op wrappers; anything calling SSL_ctrl and SSL_CTX_ctrl should
instead switch to the wrapper macros.

fc05994e24 Fold away EC point format negotiation.
The only point format that we ever support is uncompressed, which the
RFC says implementations MUST support. The TLS 1.3 and Curve25519

33ad2b59da Tidy up extensions stuff and drop fastradio support.
Fastradio was a trick where the ClientHello was padding to at least 1024
bytes in order to trick some mobile radios into entering high-power mode
immediately. After experimentation, the feature is being dropped.

This change also tidies up a bit of the extensions code now that
everything is using the new system.

efb0e16ee5 Reject empty ALPN protocols.
https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7301#section-3.1 specifies that a
ProtocolName may not be empty. This change enforces this in ClientHello

d1d8078025 Fold away certificate slots mechanism.
This allows us to remove the confusing EVP_PKEY argument to the
SSL_PRIVATE_KEY_METHOD wrapper functions. It also simplifies some of the
book-keeping around the CERT structure, as well as the API for
configuring certificates themselves. The current one is a little odd as
some functions automatically route to the slot while others affect the
most recently touched slot. Others still (extra_certs) apply to all
slots, making them not terribly useful.

Consumers with complex needs should use cert_cb or the early callback
(select_certificate_cb) to configure whatever they like based on the
ClientHello.

e3aa1d9dd4 Cleanup ticket processing and session lookup.
Use more sensible variable names. Also move some work between the helpers and
s3_srvr.c a little; the session lookup functions now only return a new session.
Whether to send a ticket is now an additional output to avoid the enum
explosion around renewal. The actual SSL state is not modified.

This is somewhat cleaner as s3_srvr.c may still reject a session for other
reasons, so we avoid setting ssl->session and ssl->verify_result to a session
that wouldn't be used. (They get fixed up in ssl_get_new_session, so it didn't
actually matter.)

b4d65fda70 Implement asynchronous private key operations for client auth.
This adds a new API, SSL_set_private_key_method, which allows the consumer to
customize private key operations. For simplicity, it is incompatible with the
multiple slots feature (which will hopefully go away) but does not, for now,
break it.

The new method is only routed up for the client for now. The server will
require a decrypt hook as well for the plain RSA key exchange.

fd67aa8c95 Add SSL_SESSION_from_bytes.
Mirrors SSL_SESSION_to_bytes. It avoids having to deal with object-reuse, the
non-size_t length parameter, and trailing data. Both it and the object-reuse
variant back onto an unexposed SSL_SESSION_parse which reads a CBS.

Note that this changes the object reuse story slightly. It's now merely an
optional output pointer that frees its old contents. No d2i_SSL_SESSION
consumer in Google that's built does reuse, much less reuse with the assumption
that the top-level object won't be overridden.

31a07798a5 Factor SSL_AEAD_CTX into a dedicated type.
tls1_enc is now SSL_AEAD_CTX_{open,seal}. This starts tidying up a bit
of the record-layer logic. This removes rr->input, as encrypting and
decrypting records no longer refers to various globals. It also removes
wrec altogether. SSL3_RECORD is now only used to maintain state about
the current incoming record. Outgoing records go straight to the write
buffer.

This also removes the outgoing alignment memcpy and simply calls
SSL_AEAD_CTX_seal with the parameters as appropriate. From bssl speed
tests, this seems to be faster on non-ARM and a bit of a wash on ARM.

Later it may be worth recasting these open/seal functions to write into
a CBB (tweaked so it can be malloc-averse), but for now they take an
out/out_len/max_out trio like their EVP_AEAD counterparts.

4b27d9f8bd Never resume sessions on renegotiations.
This cuts down on one config knob as well as one case in the renego
combinatorial explosion. Since the only case we care about with renego
is the client auth hack, there's no reason to ever do resumption.
Especially since, no matter what's in the session cache:

- OpenSSL will only ever offer the session it just established,
  whether or not a newer one with client auth was since established.

- Chrome will never cache sessions created on a renegotiation, so
  such a session would never make it to the session cache.

- The new_session + SSL_OP_NO_SESSION_RESUMPTION_ON_RENEGOTIATION
  logic had a bug where it would unconditionally never offer tickets
  (but would advertise support) on renego, so any server doing renego
  resumption against an OpenSSL-derived client must not support
  session tickets.

This also gets rid of s->new_session which is now pointless.

e6df054a75 Add s->s3->initial_handshake_complete.
There's multiple different versions of this check, between
s->s3->have_version (only works at some points), s->new_session (really
weird and not actually right), s->renegotiate (fails on the server
because it's always 2 after ClientHello), and s->s3->tmp.finish_md_len
(super confusing). Add an explicit bit with clear meaning. We'll prune
some of the others later; notably s->renegotiate can go away when
initiating renegotiation is removed.

This also tidies up the extensions to be consistent about whether
they're allowed during renego:

- ALPN failed to condition when accepting from the server, so even
  if the client didn't advertise, the server could.

- SCTs now *are* allowed during renego. I think forbidding it was a
  stray copy-paste. It wasn't consistently enforced in both ClientHello
  and ServerHello, so the server could still supply it. Moreover, SCTs
  are part of the certificate, so we should accept it wherever we accept
  certificates, otherwise that session's state becomes incomplete. This
  matches OCSP stapling. (NB: Chrome will never insert a session created
  on renego into the session cache and won't accept a certificate
  change, so this is moot anyway.)

dd978784d7 Always enable ecdh_auto.
This is a really dumb API wart. Now that we have a limited set of curves that
are all reasonable, the automatic logic should just always kick in. This makes
set_ecdh_auto a no-op and, instead of making it the first choice, uses it as
the fallback behavior should none of the older curve selection APIs be used.

Currently, by default, server sockets can only use the plain RSA key exchange.

55a436497f Handle empty curve preferences from the client.
See upstream's bd891f098bdfcaa285c073ce556d0f5e27ec3a10. It honestly seems
kinda dumb for a client to do this, but apparently the spec allows this.
Judging by code inspection, OpenSSL 1.0.1 also allowed this, so this avoids a
behavior change when switching from 1.0.1 to BoringSSL.

Add a test for this, which revealed that, unlike upstream's version, this
actually works with ecdh_auto since tls1_get_shared_curve also needs updating.

c0f763b080 Simplify server-side ECDH curve selection.
There's multiple sets of APIs for selecting the curve. Fold away
SSL_OP_SINGLE_ECDH_USE as failing to set it is either a no-op or a bug. With
that gone, the consumer only needs to control the selection of a curve, with
key generation from then on being uniform. Also clean up the interaction
between the three API modes in s3_srvr.c; they were already mutually exclusive
due to tls1_check_ec_tmp_key.

This also removes all callers of EC_KEY_dup (and thus CRYPTO_dup_ex_data)
within the library.

9d0847ae6d Add some missing error failure checks.
Found while diagnosing some crashes and hangs in the malloc tests. This (and
the follow-up) get us further but does not quite let the malloc tests pass
quietly, even without valgrind. DTLS silently ignores some malloc failures
(confusion with silently dropping bad packets) which then translate to hangs.

78e6978ab9 Disable NPN and Channel ID in DTLS.
They're not in the duplicated handshake state machines anyway. But we still
shouldn't negotiate them. d1_pkt.c assumes Finished is the only post-CCS
handshake message. An unexpected handshake message in the current epoch may
either be a retransmit/out-of-order message from the previous handshake, or a
message from the next handshake (also potentially out-of-order). In the former
case, we shouldn't spin up another handshake state machine instance.

(This assumption is required due to a protocol bug. DTLS resets sequence
numbers after a handshake, so it is necessary to categorize handshake fragments
by pre-CCS and post-CCS to distinguish between retransmit and renego.)

70bd80a236 Remove constraints on curve ID values.
The under 32 constraint is silly; it's to check for duplicate curves in
library-supplied configuration. That API is new as of 1.0.2. It doesn't seem
worth bothering; if the caller supplies a repeated value, may as well emit a
repeated one and so be it. (Probably no one will ever call that function
outside of maybe test code anyway.)

While I'm here, remove the 0 constraint too. It's not likely to change, but
removing the return value overload seems easier than keeping comments about it
comments about it.

52e5bacf7c Prune away unimplemented curve IDs.
We only implement four curves (P-224, P-256, P-384, and P-521) and only
advertise the latter three by default. Don't maintain entries corresponding to
all the unimplemented curves.

d1d7d3d26a Clear existing extension state.
When parsing ClientHello clear any existing extension state from
SRP login and SRTP profile.

More state that should be systematically reset across handshakes. Add a reset
on the ServerHello end too since that was missed.

e4824e8af0 Add outgoing messages to the handshake hash at set_handshake_header.
This avoids needing a should_add_to_finished_hash boolean on do_write. The
logic in do_write was a little awkward because do_write would be called
multiple times if the write took several iterations. This also gets complex if
DTLS retransmits are involved. (At a glance, it's not obvious the
BIO_CTRL_DGRAM_MTU_EXCEEDED case actually works.)

Doing it as the handshake message is being prepared avoids this concern. It
also gives a natural point for the extended master secret logic which needs to
do work after the finished hash has been sampled.

As a bonus, we can remove s->d1->retransmitting which was only used to deal
with this issue.

41aa325c6a ClientHello Padding for Fast Radio Opening in 3G.
The ClientHello record is padded to 1024 bytes when
fastradio_padding is enabled. As a result, the 3G cellular radio
is fast forwarded to DCH (high data rate) state. This mechanism
leads to a substantial redunction in terms of TLS handshake
latency, and benefits mobile apps that are running on top of TLS.

d1681e614f Remove SSL_set_session_secret_cb (EAP-FAST)
This is only used for EAP-FAST which we apparently don't need to support.
Remove it outright. We broke it in 9eaeef81fa by
failing to account for session misses.

If this changes and we need it later, we can resurrect it. Preferably
implemented differently: the current implementation is bolted badly onto the
handshake. Ideally use the supplied callbacks to fabricate an appropriate
SSL_SESSION and resume that with as much of the normal session ticket flow as
possible.

The one difference is that EAP-FAST seems to require the probing mechanism for
session tickets rather than the sane session ID echoing version.  We can
reimplement that by asking the record layer to probe ahead for one byte.

ec2f27dee1 Account for EVP_PKEY capabilities in selecting hash functions.
tls1_process_sigalgs now only determines the intersection between the peer
algorithms and those configured locally. That list is queried later to
determine the hash algorithm to use when signing CertificateVerify or
ServerKeyExchange.

This is needed to support client auth on Windows where smartcards or CAPI may
not support all hash functions.

As a bonus, this does away with more connection-global state. This avoids the
current situation where digests are chosen before keys are known (for
CertificateVerify) or for slots that don't exist.

033e5f47d1 Remove CERT_PKEY::valid_flags.
CERT_PKEY_SIGN isn't meaningful since, without strict mode, we always fall back
to SHA-1 anyway. So the digest is never NULL when CERT_PKEY_SIGN is computed.
The entire valid_flags is now back to it's pre-1.0.2 check of seeing if the
certificate and key are configured.

This finally removes the sensitivity between valid_flags and selecting the
digest, so we can defer choosing the digest all we like.

f31e681acf Clean up ssl_set_cert_masks.
It doesn't depend on the cipher now that export ciphers are gone. It need only
be called once. Also remove the valid bit; nothing ever reads it. Its output is
also only used within a function, so make mask_k and mask_a local variables.

So all the configuration-based checks are in one place, change the input
parameter from CERT to SSL and move the PSK and ECDHE checks to the mask
computation. This avoids having to evaluate the temporary EC key for each
cipher.

The remaining uses are on the client which uses them differently (disabled
features rather than enabled ones). Those too may as well be local variables,
so leave a TODO.

6a8d70c528 Trim tls1_check_chain and CERT_PKEY flags.
Many are now unused. Only two are currently considered in cipher selection:
CERT_PKEY_VALID and CERT_PKEY_SIGN. (As per previous commits, this is either
bizarre due to limited slots or redundant with ssl_early_callback_ctx. We can
probably prune this too.)

This also fixes a bug where DTLS 1.0 went through a TLS 1.2 codepath. As the
DTLS code is currently arranged, all version comparisons must be done via
macros like SSL_USE_SIGALGS. (Probably we should add functions to map from DTLS
to TLS versions and slowly move the library to using the TLS version as
in-memory representation.)

253b3e76dc Remove TLS strict mode.
It's new in OpenSSL 1.0.2 so it's never set by existing code. This removes gobs
and gobs of complexity from tls1_check_chain. It only checks the local
certificate, not the peer certificate. The uses appear to be:

- Sanity-check configuration. Not worth the complexity.

- Guide in selecting ciphers based on ClientHello parameters and which
  certificates in the CERT_PKEY are compatible. This isn't very useful one its
  own since the CERT_PKEY array only stores one slot per type (e.g. you cannot
  configure RSA/SHA-1 and RSA/SHA-256).

- For the (currently removed) SSL_check_chain to return more information based
  on ClientHello parameters and guide selecting a certificate. This is
  potentially useful but, as noted in the commit which removed it, redundant
  with ssl_early_callback_ctx.

This CL is largely mechanical removing of dead codepaths. The follow-up will
clean up the now unnecessary parts of this function.

b398d16c1d Remove SSL_check_chain and unexport CERT_PKEY flags.
Both of these are newly-exported in OpenSSL 1.0.2, so they cannot be used by
current consumers.

This was added in upstream's 18d7158809c9722f4c6d2a8af7513577274f9b56 to
support custom selection of certificates. The intent seems to be that you
listen to cert_cb and use SSL_check_chain to lean on OpenSSL to process
signature algorithms list for you.

Unfortunately, the implementation is slightly suspect: it uses the same
function as the codepath which mutates and refers to the CERT_PKEY of the
matching type.  Some access was guarded by check_flags, but this is too
complex. Part of it is also because the matching digest is selected early and
we intend to connect this to EVP_PKEY_supports_digest so it is no longer a
property of just the key type.

Let's remove the hook for now, to unblock removing a lot of complexity. After
cleaning up this area, a function like this could be cleaner to support, but
we already have a version of this: select_certificate_cb and
ssl_early_callback_ctx.

675227e0d2 Remove CERT_PKEY_EXPLICIT_SIGN flag.
This is maintained just to distinguish whether the digest was negotiated or we
simply fell back to assuming SHA-1 support. No code is sensitive to this flag
and it adds complexity because it is set at a different time, for now, from the
rest of valid_flags.

The flag is new in OpenSSL 1.0.2, so nothing external could be sensitive to it.

248f350ed8 Remove SSL_get_peer_signature_nid and don't compute digests for peer_key.
This is new in OpenSSL 1.0.2 so it isn't used anywhere. Cuts down slightly on
connection-global state associated with signature algorithm processing.
Repurposing the digest field to mean both "the digest we choose to sign with
this key" and "the digest the last signature we saw happened to use" is
confusing.
